The University of the Philippines, Los Banos (UPLB BEE PROGRAM) created a thorough beekeeping course (from hunting, management, hygienic harvesting, and post harvest) that was given to traditional honey-hunters and marginal families to motivate them to increase honey harvest and other beekeeping by-products.
Together with MILEA Bath and Body (an entity that is also into beekeeping and a beekeeping advocate), the bee program is moving forward to assist the farmers in marketing their produce and encourage them to continue their current sustainable beekeeping practice.
The Bee Program is now recognized abroad as a competent and reliable entity when it comes to the observance of international standards involving the flow of materials and information regarding appropriate beekeeping practices. The program is a recipient of these awards:
•Civil Service Commission Pag-asa Award (2008) •National Center of Excellence for Bee Research and Development (2004) •Outstanding Research Team (2001) •DAR Recognition (2001) •Outstanding Extension Program (1998) •Outstanding Extension Program Award (National & Regional Winner) 2010
